Welcome from Director General of Disease Control and Environment

Welcome from Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health, MoH Republic of Indonesia

doctjan1(1) It is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the Sixth TEPHINET Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Biregional Scientific Conference in Bali, Indonesia. The theme for this year's conference is "Global Surveillance Networking for Global Health."

Surveillance is an important foundation for public health action and it is the emphasis of the daily work of field  epidemiologists. Recognizing that the world is increasingly interconnected and that diseases know no borders, it is time that we explore and maximize global surveillance networking for global health. The conference will provide opportunity to scientists from epidemiology-related disciplines to share their work and views, as well as the application of latest technologies for surveillance and public health action.

This is the first time that Indonesia hosts a TEPHINET conference and we warmly welcome you to our beautiful island of Bali. We hope that you will enjoy the conference, the surrounds and have an opportunity to experience some Balinese culture, heritage and tradition. I believe this conference will be enjoyable and productive to all participants, and sincerely welcome your participation and contribution to the event.

Prof. dr. Tjandra Yoga Aditama

Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health

Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia

Welcome from TEPHINET

dionisio1Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to welcome participants to the upcoming Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Bi- regional conference to take place in Bali, November 8-11, 2011.

I believe it is important that we have the opportunity to meet during TEPHINET co-sponsored conferences to exchange information and views about public health issues and applied epidemiology. This forum also offers an opportunity for students of our field epidemiology training programs to present their work and win recognition for their efforts.

TEPHINET was established in 1997 with the intent to help strengthen international public health capacity through the support of field-based training programs in applied epidemiology and public health practice. It is an an honor for our organization to co-host the conference in collaboration with the Field Epidemiology Program of Indonesia, SAFETYNET and all the FETP programs in both regions.

Our challenge is to ensure that our training programs provide graduates with a solid foundation in the science of epidemiology as well as the capacity to manage the resources of our public health systems. This is how we can be certain that our programs will continue to be important parts of our nations’ public health services.

It is exciting to see that the preparations for the conference are well underway.

I hope to see all of you this November in Bali and please know that the TEPHINET Secretariat is here to help.

Sincerely,

Prof. Dionisio José Herrera Guibert M.D., F.M.S., M.A.E., Ph.D.

Director of TEPHINET
