U.S. Government Gives US$500,000 Grant to Bali to Help Fund Anti-Rabies Drive

Bali News: U.S. Government Joins Bali’s War on Rabies

The National News Agency Antara reports that the U.S. government is providing a US$ 500,000 grant to assist Bali in a dog vaccination program that forms part of ongoing efforts to rid the island of rabies.

News of the grant was confirmed by I Putu Sumantra, the chief of the Bali Animal Husbandry Office who said, “the grant from the United States government that will be provided through the UN Food and Agriculture Agency (FAO) is to help Bali get rid of rabies.”

Kerri-Ann Jones, Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, visited Bali on Friday, July 22 to observe rabies eradication programs now underway in Bali.

The funds will be used to help Bali carry out an effective mass vaccination program and improve laboratory standards for facilities used by those involved in the current anti-rabies drive.
