Egg hunts, sports and festivities highlight celebration in Bali

Easter is coming (again) in this island. It is now our 7th Easter in Bali. Today, the Easter celebration is on the same day as Bali's full moon cermony, which is a big holy ceremony for all Hindu. Roads are seen to be pretty empty, and like always we wonder where the people are, knowing most of the hotels and villa rentals are full. Guess most people do enjoy their time quietly at where they stay, embracing this holy weekends in the island.

Indeed unity in diversity, you could feel a peaceful happiness here, in the island of the Gods, Bali.

Easter is one of the most awaited holidays for children around the world, including those living in Bali.

Despite the small number of Christians on the island, Bali offers myriad Easter festivities. Hotels, resorts, and community organizations are busy preparing events for locals and visitors to make Easter memorable.

Airlines and travel agencies in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are promoting attractive and affordable Easter packages to Bali.

Known for its luxuriousness, Anantara Seminyak Resort and Spa is preparing a Easter program in the form of a cultural journey. On Good Friday, the resort will take guests to a village near Ubud in Gianyar, some 20 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Denpasar.

Ubud is renowned as the center of the island’s most refined music and arts. Guests will take part in an egg-painting class led by talented local artisans who inherited skills passed down from generation to generation. Guests can also paint at the studio of a famous artist in the village.

Surrounded by terraced rice fields, guests will experience a rural atmosphere while sipping Balinese coffee and tea served with the traditional sweets and pastries of Ubud.

Another interesting program will involve local farmers who will teach visitors how to make hats from palm leaves. The cultural journey will conclude with a tour of the villagers’ traditional homes with a chance to learn about their daily activities. Guests will then enjoy a seafood dinner and a Latino dance night at the resort.

While Anantara Seminyak Resort focuses more on culture, the Ayana Resort and Spa in Jimbaran is offering a fun time for junior guests and families.

The resort’s management has promised to make this Easter a magical one with its complimentary Kids Club Easter program, while adult guests will be offered complimentary yoga sessions with guest instructor Les Levanthal.

The Easter Sunday Kids Club program — open to all children under 12 who are staying at the resort — will include a visit from the Easter Bunny as well as a treasure hunt, craft activities like egg painting, a magic show and pool games to cool down. It also includes brunch served at the Kids Club.

Adults can enjoy Easter weekend with live music from Mike’s Apartment, which will perform acoustic sunset sessions at the Rock Bar, while San Francisco’s yoga guru Les Levanthal will host vinyasa sessions at sunrise and sunset on April 6, 7 and 8 for in-house guests. Sami Sami restaurant will offer a special 4-course Easter dinner set menu each night and a delicious 3-course traditional brunch on Easter Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Bali Dynasty Resort in Kuta will offer an Easter Bunny Party on April 8 at the resort’s Inner Garden. The garden will be the place to be for kids, who will kick things off with a grand Easter Egg hunt. Then it will be time for the children to show just how talented they are with an egg-painting competition with a chance of winning great prizes. The kid’s program will start at 9 a.m., with a class on making Easter greeting cards at the Kid’s Club.

The program will continue with an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Egg Painting at the Inner Garden and an Easter Bunny animal balloon making session. Activities will concluded with an Easter buffet lunch at SEN5ES.

In addition to the festivities, Easter in Bali provides visitors with a chance to engage in sports activities.

The Udayana Cricket Club on Bukit peninsula in south Bali will hold the 16th Bali International Cricket 6s from April 6 through April 8.

The tournament, to be held at Udayana University, welcomes people of all ages who love the game. In the past, the tournament has attracted teams from Indonesia, Australia and Southeast Asia.

Another sports program on offer is the West Bali Dive on April 5 through April 7. Organized by the Scuba Board, the dive will be one a stunning experiences for divers from all over the world.

Bali is one of the most famous dive destinations in the world, offering a wide range of dive spots throughout the island. The Easter Dive will start in Pemuteran in northwest Bali on April 5. After spending the night in Pemuteran, participants will head to Menjangan Island on April 6 and then to Sanur Beach near Denpasar on April 7.
