To celebrate a quarter-century of providing world-class education for international students living in Bali, a number of both solemn and fun-filled activities are planned at the Bali International School (BIS) in September 2011.

On September 2nd, BIS will host an official celebration assembly to unveil a 25th anniversary plaque. This plague will resemble a plaque unveiled at BIS’s opening in 1986 by then governor, Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra. On the same date, a time capsule, containing various BIS-related items, including school yearbooks and other momentos representative of the community, will be buried in the ground to be opened again in 2026 when BIS will celebrate 40 years since its founding.

On Sunday, September 4, BIS will host a Family Festival on its football field for an afternoon of food, fun and live-music. During the Festival, there will be an attempt to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s largest potluck dinner where each person brings an individual contribution of food. The current record for a potluck dinner stands at 479 dishes.

The History of BIS

When BIS first opened its doors in 1986, it was at the time the first international school in Bali and only taught eight (8) preschool students. Since then, the number of students has increased to 335 ranging from Preschool to Grade12.

The school has earned a prestigious list of academic accreditations including:

* The International Baccalaureate (IB), authorized to offer all three of the IB programs.
* Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
* Council of International Schools (CIS)

In order to earn these accreditations BIS has satisfied stringent scholastic standards ensuring a quality educational environment is created for its students.
