3rd Annual Gempita Gianyar Returns to Ubud, Bali

Gempita Gianyar – an Ubud, Bali Celebration of Art, Culture and Fashion June 30 – July 4, 2010.

gempitagianyar-in(6/28/2010) Gempita Gianyar a festival of art, culture and fashion will be held for the third time June 30 – July 4, 2010, in Ubud – the cultural heartland of Bali. In addition to the celebration of the Gianyar region's rich cultural and performance life, this year's festival will also rejoice in Ubud's recent selection as one of "The Best Cities in Asia" by Conde Nast Traveller.

Quoted in Kompas.com, the Regent of Gianyar, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati said, "the festival is an event to appreciate and preserve our artistic culture while at the same time celebrating Ubud's selection as one of the 'Best Cities in Asia' ".

Tjokorda, who is also known locally as "Cok Ace," told the press that he was very proud that Ubud, one of the sub-districts of Gianyar, has earned international attention and is considered as one of the most beautiful cities in Asia.. Explained Cok Ace, "This is an extraordinary predicate that needs to be celebrated by the public during this year's Gempita Gianyar Festival. The festival has proudly packaged a number of creative programs to promote this area as the 'land of Bali's arts.'"

Cok Ace, the popular Regent of Gianyar is a native of Ubud, a member of the Ubud royal household, a successful hotelier and the chairman of the Bali chapter of the Bali Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI).The justifiably proud Ubud resident extends a hearty welcome to the general public to use the opportunity of the Gempita Gianyar to enjoy and experience first hand the many attractions that Ubud has to offer.

Organizers are hoping to attract a minimum of 5,000 tourist to enjoy a full program of cultural attractions, a carnival, dinners at the Royal Palace and programs to introduce Bali's rich traditions to the younger generation.

Highlights of Gempita Gianyar 2010

• Tri Hita Karana – Friday, July 2, 2010 – 9:00 pm at Lapangan Asitina Ubud.

A special performance by Gita Gutawa, Ayu Laksmi, Oka Dalam and Ketut Rina with art direction by Jay Subyakto and musical direction by Dewa Dudjana . Presented as a spectacle on a large stage at Lapangan Astina in Ubud, Tri Kita Karana presents Balinese music, dance and performance involving more than 150 performers.

• Ubud Street Bush – Saturday, July 3, 2010 – 4:00 pm

A street parade involving 1,300 models wearing woven Indonesian fashions along a parade route from the Ubud Palace (Puri Ubud) to Lapangan Astina Ubud. Among the fashion designers creating clothing for this massive parade are Chossy Latu, Denny Wirawan, Deden Siswanto, Ivan Gunawan, Era Soekamto, Barli Asmara, Syahreza Muslim, Ali Charisma, Ari Seputra, Ade Sagi, Danny Satriadi, Oscar Lawalata, Angelica Wu, Dina Midiani, Dwi Iskandar, Enny Ming, Lenny Agustin, Malik Moestam, Monika Weber, Yenli Wijaya, Oka Diputra, Putu Aliki, Sofie, Tude Togog, Tjok Abi, Taruna K Kusmayadi and Thomas Sigar.

• Peliatan Royal Heritage Dinner – Saturday, July 3, 2010 – Puri Peliatan, Gianyar
