Bali by the Numbers: Best Year Ever as Bali will End 2010 with Almost 2.5 million Foreign Visitors.

(1/8/2011) Foreign tourist arrivals to Bali for November 2010 totaled 194,152 an improvement of 18.72% over November 2019. On a cumulative basis covering the eleven months January-November, foreign visitors increased 11.23% at 2,277.254 foreign arrivals.

Reinforcing projections made by balidiscovery.com in July 2010, it now seems certain that final figures for 2010 will see Bali end the year with 2.48 million foreign visitors – a new record for the island.

Review by Major Markets

Australia - Australian visitors remain the number one source of foreign visitors to Bali. Month-on-month Australian arrivals increased 15.35% with 54,483 visitors from "down under" passing through Bali's airport in November. Although a strong result, November's arrivals may signal the beginning of a gradual softening in Australian arrivals when compared to cumulative arrivals January – November, which were up 46.72% on a year-on-year basis.

Japan - once the top source of Bali visitors, the Japanese now lag a distant number two behind the Australians. A very modest recovery, however, may be underway ex-Japan with November 2010 arrivals hitting 16,486 a decline of only 13.32% when compared to the same month in 2009. This decline is substantially better than the cumulative year-on-year decline in Japanese tourists of 23.33% - planting a seed of optimism that the Japanese market may be making a slow rebound.

People's Republic of China - Once cited to be the next big market for Bali, the PRC appears stuck. November 2010 arrivals from China declined 13.89% (11,007) as compared to November 2009. Year-on-year for January-November PRC arrivals are down 0.66%. If there's a boom coming in PRC arrivals the consensus remains that it's yet to happen.

Taiwan - Taiwanese arrivals improved 1.81% month-on-month in November 2010 with 7,251 visitors. On a cumulative basis, Taiwanese visitors are up 6.13% through end November.

Malaysia - Malaysian visitors continue to boom to Bali increasing month-on-month an impressive 65.15% with 17,511 visitors. For January-November on a cumulative basis Malaysian arrivals are up 13.86%.

South Korea - South Korean visitors for the month of November 2010 totaled 10.679 – an improvement of only 1% over November 2009. This modest performance is apace with January-November arrivals with are up only 1.01% year-on-year when compared with 2009.

United Kingdom - November 2010 U.K. arrivals softened slightly, down 1.69% month-on-month at 6,698 visitors. The cumulative arrival figures ex the U.K. to Bali for January – November 2010 are up 13.41%.

France - French arrivals for November 2010 were up 4.85% month-on-month, figures in keeping with the year-on-year improved ex-France of 4.27%.

Russia - Russian arrivals surged in November, improving 41% month-on-month with 7,210 Russian visitors. On a cumulative basis, arrivals through the end of November from Russia are up 8.39%.

Singapore - Singapore arrivals improved month-on-month by an astounding 106% in November totaling 10,815%. On a cumulative basis, Singapore arrivals are up 69.41% January-November.

The Netherlands - Dutch visitors declined month-on-month by 4.15% in November with 4,108 visitors. On a cumulative basis, Dutch visitors are up 3.16% for January-November 2010.

U.S.A. - The America's staged a modest comeback in November 2010, improving 13.16% month-on-month (5,623). For the year 2010 through end November, however, U.S.A. arrivals are down 2.88%.

Germany - The German market to Bali remains very strong, up 24.71% month-on-month at 5,956 visitors for November 2010. Year on year German arrivals are up a strong 13.63%.

Regional Results

ASEAN arrivals have grown by 27.5% year-on-year, followed by the Asia-Pacific increasing 12.55%. All regions of the world have demonstrated growth to Bali through the end of November 2010 with Europe (+3.74%) performing marginally better than the Americas (+1.64).
