Bali Police Planning Massive Deployment to Keep Order Over Bali's Nyepi Observance of the Day of Absolute Silence.

(2/26/2011) The Bali police force will have a combined security force of 1,000 officers on duty over the Nyepi Holiday over March 5, 2011.

Nyepi marks the start of the Balinese New Year and is celebrated by an absolute 24-hours of silence from 6:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2011, until 6:00 am the following morning. Bali's airport and seaports will close, vehicular traffic will ceases, businesses close and private residences will be expected to go dark and silent. All broadcasts to the island will also cease,

The chief spokesman of the Bali police, Gde Sugianyar Dwi Putra confirmed to BeritaBali.Com that officers from the Denpasar police headquarters on duty will be supplemented by other law enforcement officers from precincts across the island.

According to Sugianyar, the most sensitive area of police enforcement over the Nyepi Holiday are the ogoh-ogoh or large floats paraded by the young men from banjars across Bali.
