Bali Ends the Year with 2.49 million Foreign Visitors

Bali By the Numbers: Year End Summary of Bali Tourism Arrivals Comparing Foreign Arrivals 2008-2010.

(2/26/2011) As predicted by Balidiscovery.com in June 2010, Bali officially finished the year with 2.49 million foreign visitors – a record-breaking arrival's total and an increase of 11.8% over 2009 (2.229 million).

Buoyed by the strong performance in 2010 [Bali is targeting 2.6–2.8 million foreign tourists in 2011]

Arrival figures for December the last month of 2010, showed a month-on-month improvement of 18.2% over 2009 with 215,804 foreign arrivals.

Bali Arrivals by Major Markets

• Australia - Australia has further cemented its lead position in terms of total Bali arrivals, moving from 2nd place in 2008 to first place in 2009 by displacing Japan. In 2010 with 25.99% overall market share, Australia arrivals continued to be very strong, increasing 45.25% in 2010 and up 111% from 2009.

• Japan - Once the undisputed leader for inbound arrivals to Bali, Japan continues its slide down 22.85% in 2010 as compared to 2009. The 2010 performance is down 30.5% from 2008, the last year in which Japan held the pole position for Bali arrivals. If Japan's arrivals continue to decline further there is a real chance it will move to a third ranking sometime in 2011 falling behind the People's Republic of China.

• People's Republic of China> - While the PRC softened in 2010 by declining 1.34% (196,863), the 2010 figures are nonetheless up 52.46% when compared to 2008.

• Malaysia - Malaysia now ranks #4 for Bali arrivals, increasing 16.87% in 2010.

• South Korea - South Korean arrivals hold 5th place in the arrival race holding virtually steady in 2010 by increasing only 0.88%. when compared to 2009. The 2010 performance, however, is down 5.7% from South Korean arrivals in 2008.

• Taiwan - Taiwan is now in 6th place for Bali arrivals. While 2010 arrivals are down 5% from 2008 there are signs of a modest recovery underway as 2010 arrivals have improved 2.74 over the 2009 results.

• France - France is the strongest European market to Bali with 106,113 arrivals. French visitors declined 3.75% in 2010, but are still up 39.5% when compared to 2008.

• United Kingdom - The second strongest European market to Bali and the 8th best market to Bali overall is the United Kingdom. The 104,375 U.K. residents who came to Bali in 2010 represented an increase year-on-year of 12.53%.

• Germany - German visitors hold 9th place as a source of Bali visitors. 12.76% more Germans came to Bali in 2010 as compared to 2009.

• The Netherlands - Dutch visitors generated the 10th largest source of Bali visitors with 75,312 Dutch passing through Bali's airport. This represented a modest 1.21% increase over 2009.

• U.S.A. - While American visitors declined 3.75% in 2010 (72,145), U.S. visitors have improved 6% since 2008.

• Russia - Russian arrivals increased 10.42% in 2010 (65,117)

Growth by Geographical Area

The strongest growth in arrivals for Bali came from ASEAN destinations, improving 30.89% in 2010 while Asia-Pacific arrivals also turned in a strong performance, increasing 12.61%. In terms of market share the Asia-Pacific and ASEAN now constitute a 70.5% market share of all Bali arrivals.
